Downsizing With Smart High-Performers from ISABELLENHÜTTE

Smarte Shunt-Lösungen von ISABELLENHÜTTE helfen, die Systemkosten von Body Control Modulen (BCM) zu optimieren und die Effizienz zu maximieren.

Optimised System Costs and Specific Shunts

Smart shunt solutions from ISABELLENHÜTTE help to optimise the system costs of body control modules (BCMs) and maximise efficiency. Due to increasing vehicle complexity, multiple BCMs are often required, which affects installation space, weight and costs. Therefore, BCMs with higher power density and lower energy consumption are used, which can be achieved by using specific shunts.

Higher Performance with Lower Energy Consumption

Body Control Modules (BCMs), also known as central control units, are responsible for controlling and monitoring various vehicle functions such as electric door openers, window regulators, tailgate opening and seat adjustment. The currents for controlling the motors and actuators are monitored and regulated by current sensing resistors (shunts). Since the BCMs are located inside the vehicle, the space and temperature requirements are lower compared to engine or transmission control units.

Due to the high load capacity of ISABELLENHÜTTE's resistors and their excellent stability values, shunts with compact dimensions can be used to intelligently control the current flow in motors. This leads to the optimisation of the performance and efficiency of electric motors, DC/DC converters and regulators, allowing Body Control Modules to achieve higher performance while reducing energy consumption.

A practical example illustrates this advantage: If the „BRS“ series size 3812 was previously used, it can be replaced by a more than 5 times smaller „FMK“ shunt of size 1206 without affecting the performance requirements. This is especially useful when multiple shunts are used on the board. Reducing the space requirements in the application contributes to the overall optimisation of weight and system costs. For lower initial component tolerance requirements, it is also possible to use shunts with 5% or 10% tolerance, providing a further improvement in the cost-benefit ratio.

Typical component recommendations for BCMs include the use of „FMK“ shunts in size 1206 with a resistance range of 2 to 6mOhm and „CMK“ shunts in the range of 10 to 100mOhm. For applications with higher currents and power requirements, the „WAK“ series with a resistance range of 0.5 to 1mOhm offers is an ideal solution to achieve space savings.
