Digital Processing of Audio Signals
The processing of audio signals is increasingly being carried out by DSPs (Digital Signal Processors), which in turn requires the use of analog filters and AD/DA converters. CODICO offers a wide range of active and passive components for all aspects of audio signal processing, as well as connectors and cable assemblies for professional and commercial applications.
CODICO offers top-quality ADCs and DACs that meet the highest audio requirements with a sampling frequency of 192 kHz and a word width of 24 bits.
The range is rounded off by mixed signal SoCs (System on Chips) with integrated DSPs and audio codecs.
Samples ContactsAdvantages of the Digital Processing of Audio Signals
- No aging: Analog elements are subject to an aging process, which means that their transmission performance deteriorates over time.
- Higher precision: Due to manufacturing tolerances and temperature dependency, analog systems never work 100% identical. In contrast, digital systems always process in exactly the same way.
- Reasonable price
- Storage: Unlike analog audio signals, digital audio signals can be stored
Despite all these advantages of digital signal processing, it is not possible to do without analog elements completely. Before digitization, the audio signal must be limited in its bandwidth, and this is done by analog low-pass filtering. Similarly, after the digital-analog conversion, the step-shaped output signal must be smoothed with a low-pass filter. In addition to the filters, audio applications also use other analog elements, such as amplifiers. Amplifiers enhance the input signal before digitization according to the input range of the ADC. Conversely, amplifiers are used after the DA conversion, e.g. to control loudspeakers. And when using Class D amplifiers, the output signal must again be smoothed with an analog low-pass filter.
